My name in the paper

Good blog-reading folks, I appear to have mono, so I am nearly completely out of commission at the moment. However, I have fun news. I'm featured -- in one way or another -- all over the local print media. Check me out:

First is Tulsa People -- The Art of Craft. That's me in the center in red. Don't let that photo's perspective fool you -- I'm shorter than everyone else in the group! I'm also quoted a couple of times, and one of my items is featured. Yay!

Next is Tulsa People again -- Gallery Hopper -- Breast Impressions. I don't know if I told you all about my forays into nude modeling. Probably not, since it isn't true. I did, however, lend my, ahem, torso for a cast earlier this year. My dear friend Christine then purtified it. The end result is on display at a local mall and will be auctioned off in October to support local women with breast cancer. Though my cast isn't featured here, it's still something in which I'm involved.

And finally we have the Urban Tulsa -- Get That Indie Look, which again does not mention me, but I will be selling there. I'm also helping to plan the Handmade Nation screening at the Circle a week from Sunday in conjunction with Indie Emporium.

Edit: Yikes! The intrepid Christine found THREE more mentions! Check out my breast cast in today's Tulsa World (blue in the lower right), in the Urban Tulsa, and in this month's ArtBeat Magazine (on pages 24 and 25). Pretty exciting!

So yay for some fun publicity! Boo for the "kissing disease," which is nowhere near as fun as the name implies. Hope you're all happy and healthy!

Yesterday's Good Day Tulsa interview went just fine. Kristin Dickerson did a great job of hitting all the high points, so I hope lots of people saw it.

Today at 11:50, I'm going to interview for OklaTravelNews. It's online, so if you can steal a few moments, check it out. If you can't watch it live, you'll be able to check it out online for the rest of the day and before noon tomorrow, too. I almost feel important going on all these shows! :)

I'm the lass in the blue shirt, and yep, the photographer did spell my first name wrong in the cutline. There is no D in the middle of Brigid. That would just be silly. I'm trying to decide whether or not to point that out to him. I normally wouldn't since they get in trouble for that, but since it's all tied to my business, I may be a nag. Still debating.

Anyway, it's a neat little piece, and my oils made the page. Woo hoo! Make sure to click on the link for the rest of the article with Tara's cuff tutorial, and you can check the TCM blog for all the tutorials, which are still slowly coming up. Go team!

Interview

I've been quiet around here lately. Sorry for that! It's been a busy week at my day job. I'm also testing out a new migraine medicine, which is affecting my memory and concentration (fun!), making updating the blog a bit of a task. The truth is that I haven't been creating much lately either. The slump shall be shortlived, however. I have a bunch of yarn, beading supplies, and jars for my new scrubs. I just need to sit down and get to work. The ADD brain has been making this difficult the past week. Oy.

However, tonight, I'm getting together with Tara and Christine of the Tulsa Craft Mafia to meet with a reporter from the Tulsa World (yep, my former employer). She's writing a piece on inexpensive Valentine's Day crafts to make for your sweetie. I've decided to come a bit out of left field and do a tutorial on making massage oil. My recommendation will be that the bottle also comes with a "gift certificate" for a massage, of course, not a request for one. One lucky soul (the boyfriend) got to be my test subject last night. Aside from enjoying the back rub, he helped me decide which fragrance combination was the most pleasant and which oil had the best consistency. I'm really lucky to have such a willing participant, no?

We all plan to post our tutorials on the TCM blog, so I'll let you all know when that's done. I'll also post a link to the completed article. I'll see you in the funny papers. :)

Media frenzy!

Two of my favorite Tulsa Craft Mafia ladies, Holly (HandmadeByHolly and Hollyrocks) and Amby (TheKnitOwl) were on the front page of the Scene section of yesterday's Tulsa World. Click here to check out the PDF of the spread. The article features Holly's rockin' guitar pick earrings and Amby's adorable fabric rings.

Earlier in the day, Tara (MyLittleGnomies), Amby, Renee (GreenerMe and GreenerMeCasuals), Holly's mom, and myself were on Fox 23 Daybreak show promoting a fundraiser Tara is putting on for the Alzheimer's Association. Tara and Amby talked about the event, and the rest of us modeled some of the clothes that will strut down the runway at teh fundraiser. The event, A Walk Down the Runway, will be held this Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church and will feature a fashion show of local designs, a tasty lunch, and information on Alzheimer's disease. If I find a video of the promo segment, I'll make sure to post it.

And breathe!

Blue Dome is done, so I can relax again. I'm sure what I had qualifies as an actual weekend, and I'm unconvinced I should have been forced to work today. Alas, my opinion matters little, for I am in my meat locker of an office, toiling away. Well, not so much toilnig as counting the minutes 'til I head out the door. It will likely be another early night for me again this evening.

So, a recap. The festival was fun, despite the devilish sun, my shoddy canopy, and the long days. I'll post pictures of the booth and such this week. I met and ran into lots of cool, fun people, and I am satisfied with the knowledge that several people around town are now sporting Grey Eye Designs originals. Woo hoo! Plus, now I have incentive to make and list new pieces. I didn't get rich or nothin', but I did make more than double my booth fee. I also got to spend time with a group of truly awesome, inspiring artists. In fact, I'm brainstorming a list of art and craft projects I want to start because of them. These fairs are always interesting. I learned a ton from a marketing perspective, from what I make that people like to the best way to attract traffic to my booth. Fascinating, I say.

And I got interviewed for this past weekend's edition of Up Late with Ben Sumner. If you missed it (and me in my pre-tan whiteness), you can check it out here. I'm in the first segment on Blue Dome. In addition to my little face, there are several product shots throughout. Kind of exciting. I am babbling, but at least I look fine!

Thanks to everyone who came out to see me. The best part of all was chatting with the people I knew, including some of the new faces I encountered. And as I've promised before, look for new items in my shop this week!
