My name in the paper

Good blog-reading folks, I appear to have mono, so I am nearly completely out of commission at the moment. However, I have fun news. I'm featured -- in one way or another -- all over the local print media. Check me out:

First is Tulsa People -- The Art of Craft. That's me in the center in red. Don't let that photo's perspective fool you -- I'm shorter than everyone else in the group! I'm also quoted a couple of times, and one of my items is featured. Yay!

Next is Tulsa People again -- Gallery Hopper -- Breast Impressions. I don't know if I told you all about my forays into nude modeling. Probably not, since it isn't true. I did, however, lend my, ahem, torso for a cast earlier this year. My dear friend Christine then purtified it. The end result is on display at a local mall and will be auctioned off in October to support local women with breast cancer. Though my cast isn't featured here, it's still something in which I'm involved.

And finally we have the Urban Tulsa -- Get That Indie Look, which again does not mention me, but I will be selling there. I'm also helping to plan the Handmade Nation screening at the Circle a week from Sunday in conjunction with Indie Emporium.

Edit: Yikes! The intrepid Christine found THREE more mentions! Check out my breast cast in today's Tulsa World (blue in the lower right), in the Urban Tulsa, and in this month's ArtBeat Magazine (on pages 24 and 25). Pretty exciting!

So yay for some fun publicity! Boo for the "kissing disease," which is nowhere near as fun as the name implies. Hope you're all happy and healthy!

Thankful Thursday

I'm still alive! Things have been completely mad lately, so I apologize for my absence. I'll have fun news soon, though. For now, here's my three:

1. Art! I'm engulfed by it lately, and even though it has taken over my life, I love it.

2. French press coffee. I bought myself the press for my birthday. I loooove it! It's delicious and wonderful and amazing. Screw you, workplace coffee.

3. My little purple Nano. It was my other birthday present to myself. I call it my little grape. I am quickly filling it up with wonderful tunes. Now I just need to get smaller earbuds. There are many great things about being small, but having to buy special things like earbuds is not one of them.

Happy almost weekend, friends!

Thankful Thursday: Birthday Edition

I turn 25 today. Well, actually, I will turn 25 at 6:29 p.m. CDT, but who's counting? In honor of this momentous occasion, I will do a big, fancy, 10-item thankful list. Woo hoo! Are you ready? OK, let's go!

1. Free cookies. Thank you, Dilly Deli, for contributing to my day's sugar intake in honor of my birth.

2. Inside jokes. I can't wait to see my new dead llama!

3. Facebook. Making me feel more loved on my birthday than ever before.

4. Twitter. Occupying my time when Facebook is acting crazy.

5. TV on the internet. Rehearsal made me miss several season premieres. What ever shall I do? Well, find them on Hulu, YouTube or one of the network web sites, of course!

6. Falling back in love with reading. You can blame my beloved for that one. I'm dying to get my hands on some Michael Pollan right now.

7. My beloved himself. He makes every day a little brighter.

8. Journaling. I am trying to find new methods of exploring my creativity. I enjoy writing, but I'm trying to do a more visual approach to looking at my life and the world. We'll see where this goes.

9. Vacations. I know, I still haven't posted about Eureka Springs. Hopefully tomorrow. It was wonderful and did me a lot of good. Next month: Hot Springs.

10. Returning my my everyday life. Yep, it's pretty great. I need breaks from time to time, but for the most part, it's charmed.

Thanks for dropping by, and happy my birthday to you!

The Felt Bird

Tomorrow is the grand opening of The Felt Bird, the brainchild of the crafty Estela Romanos and her musical man Riley Jantzen. I sadly will not be able to attend because I'll (not so sadly) be in Eureka Springs for a nice, long weekend. I am, however, finally mailing a box of goodies to her today. I packaged everything up last night. Take a gander:

Here are nine (of the 20) memory wire bracelets I'm sending on their brand new display. I took a cue from Miss Holly and used a picture frame, but I gave it my own twist. I attached little hooks with glue dots to the front so the bracelets could hang. Fun, huh?
My initial ring display, which required great planning, thought and execution was, sadly, a dud. It didn't occur to me until I tried it out that the very thing that made floral foam seem like a useful ring display would ultimately be its downfall. Shoving a ring base into a slit in the foam is easy and very, very messy. Anyway, here's a much simpler but still attractive display featuring all 20 of the Alice rings I sent.
So, if you are available tomorrow night, head down to Enid for the grand opening, which begins at 6 p.m. Support local art and pick up the "handmade. original. sustainable." goodies at the store!
