A month or so ago, I made an ambitious list of plants to grow, though recently I've been rethinking it. Can I really grow that many kinds of vegetables? I've decided that I can. The class made me feel like I'm ready for it. We'll see if the joke will be on me later.
One of our handouts is a nifty list from Oklahoma State University's Extension Service detailing when to plant everything in our temperamental Oklahoma weather. So here's the plan so far:
Next week, I will plant:
- Spinach
- Potatoes (yep, I'm going for it!)
- Maybe carrots
- Strawberries
- Herbs (I'm thinking parsley, basil and dill)
In April, I will add:
- Bush beans
- Peppers
- Tomatoes
- Summer squash
I'll also do a couple of flowers, but I haven't decided which ones. I really enjoyed snapdragons last year. I'll probably pick up whatever looks pretty and could cohabitate with everything else I've picked out.
I've been convinced to do a couple of very large containers instead of several small ones, though I plan to keep the potatoes separate. All I have to do now is buy everything! I have Friday off work, so I plan to get rolling then. I can't wait to have everything growing and hopefully avoid some of the problems of last year.
Who else is doing a vegetable garden this year? Let me know what you're growing!

We are! The mister actually JUST finised tilling it up to get ready to plant! We learned a lot from last year so this year should (crossing fingers) be great! And my favorite flower EVER are snapdragons!!! :)
That sounds great.
Everytime Spring rolls around and I see Tomato Plants I ALWAYS think of my Dad because he enjoyed his garden so much. I love gardening and I'm guessing the more you do it the more you'll enjoy it!
Yay! My grandpa grew show roses, but other than that, I'm about it for gardening in my family!
I grew stuff for two years, but then I took last year off because of the baby. This year I'm totally going for it more than before.
I bought heirloom seeds from Etsy: tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, sweet snow peas, green beans, butternut squash, bell peppers, and some herbs. Also maybe strawberries. I tilled up a patch of my backyard last fall. I've been trying to make compost, but I think I'm doing something wrong...
Im in gardening limbo....I'm hoping to move soon (hoping!) and I have a feeling it will be right during gardening time.
Last year I really tried my best...but the bugs! Tomato caterpillars...squash beetles...it was like a plague. I think I might just do herbs this year. I love growing rosemary and basil because they go in so many dishes and you can just pop out the backdoor, grab your herbs, and voila! you're cooking extremely fresh! Especially love rosemary bread...
come on spring!~!
